Debra (Frydendall) Hawkins was born and raised in Greeley, Colorado and graduated from Greeley West High School. She attended Colorado State University where she earned a degree in Interior Design as well as a graduate degree in Construction Management. After graduation, she enjoyed a lengthy career working for Western Contractors in California.
When her health began to decline, she moved back to Colorado where she made her home in Red Feather Lakes. There she enjoyed being involved in The Chapel in the Pines, Mountain Gals, Friends of the Library, various Bible studies, and the Red Feather Lakes Historical Society. Debra also taught classes at CSU in the field of Construction Management. Later, she began teaching English Learners’ (EL) classes internationally online. Additionally, she completed a lengthy EL immersion in Mexico where she taught and created curriculum for EL learners. She loved international traveling and experiencing the culture, architecture, cuisine, and people.
Debra was preceded in death by her parents Dr. Dennis J. Frydendall and Mrs. Della (Kuys) Frydendall. Surviving Debra is her brother David Frydendall (Jane) and sister Dianne Frydendall-Smith (Paul). She leaves behind two nieces and two nephews and their respective spouses, as well as five great-nephews who can light up a room with their energy, intelligence and imagination. Additionally, she is survived by many travel companions and friends who enjoyed good conversation, a glass of wine, and many wonderful experiences throughout the years.
A Celebration of Debra's Life will be held on September 5, 2026 at The Chapel in the Pines in Red Feather Lakes Colorado. Services will begin at 10:00am, in the Fellowship Hall.
Memorials can be given to The Chapel in the Pines of Red Feather Lakes, The Heifer Project International, Red Feather Lakes Library, or to any other organization of the donor’s choice that honors Debra's memory.
