Donna Jean Wasinger

Donna Jean Wasinger was born on the family farm in Hays, Kansas on May 28, 1934, to Isidore and Pauline Brull. She was the second oldest of eight children.

At the age of twelve, Donna left the farm with her older sister to care for their grandparents while also attending school and working. She graduated from Hays High School in 1951.

On February 16, 1952, she married Linus F. Wasinger at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hays, Kansas. After Linus was discharged from the Army, they moved to Mankato, Minnesota where they lived for fifteen years until they decided to move to Loveland and Fort Collins, Colorado where they made their life together with their five children and two grandchildren.

They have one great grandchild.

Over their sixty-six years of marriage, Donna and Linus provided a stable, caring home for forty-two foster children, with her number one priority of always being there for her family as a stay at home mom and homemaker.

Donna was not one to sit still. She believed in working hard, getting things done and getting them done quickly. Many times when asked when she wanted or needed something done, her reply would be, “yesterday.”

Throughout her life, she had many occupations, including nurse aide, head soda jerk, babysitter, dishwasher, waitress, receptionist, and cleaning homes. After Linus retired, together, they started L&D Services, their lawn maintenance and tree trimming business.

Some things she enjoyed in life were the kids, dancing, country music, going to garage sales, painting homes, walking her dogs, eating a good hamburger, keeping in touch with her siblings, and making dolls for others, some of which she donated to a nursing home.

Donna had a great passion in life for dogs. She made over 1,000 dog beds for rescue shelters, and rescued over thirty animals from various puppy mills and Humane Societies. After each Memorial Day, she collected flowers and took them to the pet cemetery to put on not only her pets’ graves, but also on all the graves in the cemetery.

Due to her passion and generous love for others, she touched the lives of many.

Her memory will live on in our hearts and she will be greatly missed.

The LORD took Donna home on September 3, 2018.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Isidore and Pauline Brull,

husband, Linus F. Wasinger, sister, Gloria Leiker,

two brothers-in-law, Gilbert Leiker and Mark Null, and

nephew, Daniel Leiker.
