Duane was born on May 13, 1960, in Greeley, Colorado. He was the son of Kenneth Samuel and Sadie Mae (Purvis) Schraeder, the fifth of six children.
Duane was raised on the family farm near Bracewell, Colorado before moving to Windsor. He learned a great work ethic from his father and siblings. He developed a knack for mechanical work on vehicles and enjoyed it.
Duane had two careers, meat cutting and farming. He began working at Steffen's Market in Windsor, Colorado while in high school, where he and his coworkers were fond of handing out nicknames. Duane was lovingly referred to as "The Jew", because of his curly hair and the stocking cap he wore that reminded folks of a yamaka. He then went to work on the farm for longtime family friend Marvin (Bill) Sitzman. After several years of farming, he went back to cutting meat at Hayes Market in Johnstown, specializing in making "Duane's Sausage". Duane was in a severe motorcycle accident in the late 90's which he barely survived. His recovery was long and difficult, but after months of rehabilitation he was able to return to Hayes Market and worked there for several more years. Duane was known for being the hardest worker around. He was known for his wit and being mischievous, loving to make people laugh. Duane will be greatly missed by all.
He is survived by Mother Sadie, sister Deborah, brother Donald and his wife Cindy, brother Kenneth Dean and his wife Kathy, brother Darrel, nephew Matthew and family, niece Celeste and family, nephew Tyree and family, niece Kendra and family, Darrel Jr. and family. Duane was preceded in death by Father Kenneth Samuel, brother Douglas, and nephew Benjamin.
Celebration of life will be held at Allnutt Funeral Service in Ft. Collins, Colorado, 650 West Drake Road, on Friday, January 12, 2024, at 11 AM, luncheon to follow.
