Gerhard was born in Wijhe, Netherlands and was the oldest of five children to Gerhard and Albertina Wullink. He grew up and worked on the family dairy farm. He served eighteen months in the Dutch Army. After serving in the military, he moved to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada to pursue his under-graduate degree in physics at McMaster University. He graduated with the highest honors. He met his loving wife in Hamilton, where they wed and had 2 children. The family then moved to Laramie, Wyoming, where Gerhard received his Masters of Electrical Engineering with the highest honors from the University of Wyoming. The family moved to Loveland, Colorado and called that home. He worked for Hewlett Packard, Martin Marietta and the Mercedes Benz/Chrysler Corporation for 35 years. He continued his education at Colorado State University with courses in PhD level courses.
Gerhard was a brilliant man, fluent in five languages and passionate about theoretical mathematics. Gerhard enjoyed the outdoors and walking in the mountains. He was strong in his Christian faith which he passed on to his children. Gerhard was a very kind and gentle man, who would lend hand to anyone in need. Gerhard liked to explain “math” to anyone.
Gerhard is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Pearl Wullink, their children, Wietse Wullink and Marijke Landon, seven grandchildren, (Emily, Isabelle, Anna, Will, Evan, Alex and Kate) and four siblings; Reijenne, Jan, Edward and Janny, all living in the Netherlands.
A memorial service will be held on May 26, 2016 at 10 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3333 Duffield Ct., Loveland, CO.
