

Howard A. Alves passed away on August 17, 2007 at Good Samaritan Village in Fort Collins, Colorado. Born December 10, 1916 at Wetmore, Texas to Emil and Irma Alves, he earned an M.S. in Chemical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin in 1939.Howard and Alma S. Krans were married in 1951 in Evanston, Illinois, had one daughter, and were active members of St. PaulÂ?s Lutheran Church in Evanston. Howard was employed as a chemical engineer at the Chicago offices of the Pure Oil Company and later Unocal. Howard and Alma moved to San Antonio following his retirement in 1982. They were active members of St. JohnÂ?s Lutheran Church.Howard was devoted to his family and cared deeply about his many friends. He made friends readily and was well-liked and admired by all who knew him. His optimism, humor, intelligence, warmth, compassion, kindness, and integrity will be greatly missed.Howard was preceded in death by Alma in August 2004. He is survived by daughter Patricia Heyse of Fort Collins, Colorado, grandchildren, Heather, Kevin, and Erin of Colorado, and great-grandchildren Kelsey, Elise, and Aidan of Colorado. He is also survived by his cousin, Melvah Uecker, of Blanco, Texas.A memorial service will be held at St. JohnÂ?s Lutheran Church, 502 E. Nueva St., San Antonio, Texas on Friday, August 24, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. JohnÂ?s Lutheran Church or to the American Diabetes Association.
