Jack R. Fenwick, 42 year resident of Fort Collins and professor of Agricultural Science at CSU, died peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family Sunday March 4th, 2018. His 79 years were overflowing with love of family, education, and sports.
Jack was born September 26, 1938 in Indiana. He was the first born to Ardis and Charles Fenwick of Brook, Indiana. He was raised on the family farm with his younger sister, Kay, full of family, fun, work, and was the site of Fourth of July Family Reunions. These memories remained a cornerstone of his love of family and farming. He graduated from Brook High School in 1956, continued his education in Agronomy at Purdue University receiving his Bachelor of Science in 1960. He taught Biology and Vocational Agriculture at Remington High School for several years, before returning to Purdue University to pursue his Masters, and PhD in Agronomy (1976). His 1962 marriage with Sara Tapp, was blessed with two children, Donald (1965) and Kendra (1972). Jack was hired to join the Department of Agronomy at Colorado State in 1976 and the family moved to Fort Collins. Jack taught for the next 42 years notably Introductory Crops, and Crop and Soil Management classes. His enthusiasm for undergraduate advising and mentoring was renowned campus wide and exemplified through him being the adviser for the Agronomy Club. His positive outlook on life was contagious to everyone.
Jack’s first wife, Sara passed away in 1986. The Department, his family and his close neighborhood friends supported Jack, Don and Kendra throughout the next four years. Jack and Ann Low decided to marry with the blessing of their families, in 1990. This was the beginning of a second chapter of the Fenwick Family. Two additional children blessed the Fenwick family, Brooke (1992) and Megan (1998). Jack’s love of his four children was unsurpassed. His pride in all their accomplishments was foremost in his thoughts.
