Born June 5th, 1939 in Marion, Indiana, she was the daughter of Robert and M. Louise (Boltinghouse) Bish. She and her younger brother, Robert, grew up in Tucson, Arizona, but spent their summers on the family farm in Bloomington, Indiana. Jan enjoyed caring for horses, singing in the choir, and crafting while in school. She graduated from Amphitheater High School in Tucson in 1957.
While visiting Montrose, Colorado, Jan met her first husband, Don Lacefield. They wed in 1960 and were blessed with two daughters, Tami and Lori. After their divorce, Jan moved the family to Madison, Indiana, where they lived until the girls graduated. Jan remarried twice and moved to Indianapolis before returning to Colorado in 1994.
Jan worked in administrative positions throughout her life, including at Littleton and Aurora public schools, and Graebel Van Lines while in Colorado. In Indiana, she worked for Public Service of Indiana at the Marble Hill Nuclear Plant and later at the home office in Indianapolis. Jan possessed an incredible work ethic and was known for her tenaciousness and attention to detail. She spent her last decade working as a receptionist with AutoNation and finally retired at the age of 80.
Jan was a kind woman who was always caring for others. She loved to cook and often baked cookies, pies, and cakes for coworkers and friends. She was a good mom whose love was shown through the warmth of her home. When not working, Jan loved antiquing and bargain hunting, frequently attending auctions and estate sales in search of the next great treasure. She also loved to dance and sing and was a great storyteller. Jan loved animals and had a special place in her heart for dogs. In her later years, she found great joy in rescuing senior dogs and giving them a life of luxury in their final years. She was also a woman of incredible faith and served as a Greeter at Heritage Christian Center in Denver for many years. She will be dearly missed.
Jan is survived by her daughters, Tami Lacefield and Lori Lacefield; granddaughters, Kisha Lacefield and Christy Fornash; great-grandchildren, Logan Lacefield, Sean Roybal, Angel Roybal, Madison Thomas, Gracelyn Thomas, Aspen Thomas and Noah Thomas; and by her niece, Wendie Swazo. She is preceded in death by her parents Robert & Louise Bish, and by her brother Robert "Bob" Bish.
A Graveside Service will be held for Jan on Thursday, September 4th, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Fort Collins, Colorado. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
