His life began on September 13, 1953 in San Antonio, Texas, where he was born and raised. He was very close to his only sister, Skyler, and was heartbroken when she died at the young age of 32. This was a difficult time for John as he lost his mother, father, and sister within the span seven years.
John was a brilliant chemist. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio and had begun to work on his Doctorate in Chemistry at CSU in Fort Collins. He held seven patents. John married Mariza Rivera in San Antonio and they relocated to Fort Collins in 1998. While they had no children together, John loved Mariza’s three children as they were his own.
John was a dedicated father who cooked for his children and would pick up his son at 2:00 in the morning from football. He had many lifelong friends whom he grew up with, went to school with, and worked with. When he couldn’t see his friends in person, he stayed in touch over the phone. He was a stranger to no one.
John was a man of great faith and a member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Fort Collins. He knew that life everlasting was waiting for him. He was intelligent and kept his mind agile. He loved to read and had read many thick sci-fi books. He also enjoyed watching movies at the Cinemark. He loved his family and will be dearly missed.
A Graveside Committal will be held for John on Friday, January 31st, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Fort Collins.Treasured memories and condolences are welcome at resthavencolorado.com.
