When John and I first crossed paths in the late 1980s, we realized we shared a passion in collecting music. What galvanized this relationship further was a strong bond with the songs of The Rolling Stones and a drive to see their live performances wherever we could.

Soon, this drive took us around the world together, from Albuquerque to Amsterdam (and many, many other places) to see Mick Jagger and Keith Richards do their thing in small, medium, and large venues. Nothing could ever replace sipping a whiskey after each show while carefully assessing the performance and the set list.

John and I shared a number of career path similarities and enjoyed each other's company in outdoor and urban environments. He was a very nice and gentle man who stood beside me on my wedding day. He often showed his passion for the natural world in so many ways.  He could have conversations about complex academic models and then shift to describing a rare bird he had sighted in an instant.

I will miss John, but I have so many vivid memories of our times together I will certainly never forget him. John, I hope you rest in peace and get the "Satisfaction" you so richly deserve!! Bless you my friend.

I have nothing but extremely fond memories of my times with John, which date back to my Wyoming graduate school days starting in 1980. He was a kindred spirit and we quickly became very good friends.  Thinking about those times brings a big smile to my face - along with the tears. John was truly a great man with a big heart and a humble soul.  I am honored to have had him as a friend.  My sincere condolences to Linda, Dan and Debbie as well as the rest of John’s family. I can only imagine the huge hole John’s passing has created in your hearts.  I will truly miss him.  Doug Gegax
