

Lorraine K Pappas passed away on December 2, 2020 peacefully at her home in Fort Collins, CO. She was born on December 14, 1927 in a farmhouse in Ogallala Nebraska. She was the youngest daughter of five children to Edward and Lona (Wellman) Schindler. She had three sisters and one brother. Mary (Henry) Lomme of Julesburg, CO, Dorothy Mayes of Denver, CO, Rose Schindler of Big Springs Nebraska and Edward (Berdeen) Schindler of Concord CA who all proceed her in death.
Lorraine grew up in Ogallala, Nebraska she attended a small country school, District 21, until 8th grade. She attended Ogallala High School for 1 semester, then Papa bought a farm near Big Springs and the drive was too much so she transferred to Chappell High School. Lorraine was very popular, she was social, a cheerleader, involved in Course Group and there she met a fella name Frankie Pappas. She graduated from Chappell High School in 1945. Frankie and Lorraine got engaged shortly after. She moved to Denver with her good friend Jenny Ellen Wills to work. Frankie headed off to the service. Up on his return Lorraine married Frankie Pappas on January 27, 1947 at Saint Joseph's Church in Chappell Nebraska; Father Raymond Miles officiated the union. Frankie and Lorraine had 4 sons. Mark Pappas (Terri) of Greeley, CO, (Children: Mara Pappas (Ooshon Brown), Erin Snyder (Chris Snyder) Josh Gesick (Shayna). Michael Pappas (Corky) of Fort Collins, CO (Children: Michelle Hubbard (Jeff Hubbard), Justin Pappas, Jason Pappas (Melissa Hudson) Anne Spry (Jared Spry), Max Pappas of Fort Collins, CO and Myles (Angela) of Graham, WA. (Children: Christopher Forry (Stephanie Smith), and Kaitlin Pappas.
Lorraine and Frankie purchased a home near the grade school where they lived for a short time before they moved to the farm west of Chappell. In the mid 60’s they rented a house in town so the younger boys were closer to school. Then a few years later they bought a home in Chappell. Lorraine worked for the Department of Welfare for 20 years. In January 1972 they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. A few months later, on April 19, 1972 Frankie passed away after a 3-year battle with cancer.
In 1984 Lorraine relocated to Fort Collins CO to be closer to family. She worked for the Fort Collins Board of Realtors for many years. She later became the House Mother for Kappa Kappa Gama at Colorado State University retiring at 72. She enjoyed life there and hosting parties and the legendary family reunion in 1995.
Lorraine is survived by her sons Mark (Terri), Michael (Corky), Max, Myles (Angela), 9 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild and many nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends. Colleen McAuliffe, Kandis McAuliffe, Lynda Schindler and Darlene Clifton just to name a few.
Lorraine loved the farm and the mountains. She enjoyed gardening, decorating, singing, dancing, reading and travel. She was always up to go anywhere or do anything. She especially loved dogs. There were many throughout the years but “the girls” Muffin and Pepper were special and right by her side to the end.
She was a member of the Roman Catholic Church, CSU Women’s Association, Red Hat Society, Sorority, Sharon’s Bible Study and many other groups and organizations throughout the years.
