Kent was born in Urbana, Illinois on March 26, 1959 to Gene and Myrtle Shove. He grew up in Urbana with his brother, Gregory, and sister, Myrene. Following high school, Kent attended Parkland Community College, where he studied auto mechanics.
Kent was married in 1990 in Urbana and though the partnership didn’t last, the union blessed Kent with a son, Stephen. Kent loved his son dearly and was proud of him every day.
In 2014, Kent relocated to Loveland. He continued to work as an auto mechanic and practice as a musician, and later, a small business owner. Kent was very creative and enjoyed making short films and dioramas. He was also extremely skilled mechanically and was an avid train model designer and builder. He had a heart of gold and enjoyed the time he spent volunteering for the Lions Club. He could often be found in his overalls and conductor’s cap running the train in the park in Loveland.
Kent was a good man. He was a loving father and dear friend to many. He will be dearly missed. He is survived by his only son, Stephen B. Shove, his sister, Myrene Shove Brown, and by his loving sweetheart, Beth Pitcher. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Gregory Shove.
A Celebration of Life Gathering was held for Kent on Friday, October 20, 2023 at The Artisan's Marketplace Building, followed by drinks and memories at Loveland Tap & Tavern. Kent’s family greatly appreciates all those that were able to attend and remember Kent together. Contributions in Kent’s memory are welcome to the Loveland Lions Club for The Buckhorn Northern Railroad (The Train in the Park). Memories and words of condolence are welcome at www.resthavencolorado.com for the Shove family.
