Michael went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 10, 2020 with his family by his side. Michael (Mike) Demma was born on March 22, 1941 in Tarentum, PA. His parents were the late Mike J. and Sara (Mercurio) Demma. Mike graduated from Tarentum High School and then attended Gannon University and graduated in 1963. After graduation, Mike went into the Army. After his discharge, he moved back home and worked for Gulf Research and then accepted a job in Rochester, NY to work at Eastman Kodak.

Mike met his beloved soulmate and on October 27, 1967, married Joan (Sarniak) Demma. They lived in Rochester, NY and in 1970 were transferred to the Windsor Kodak plant. He has three wonderful children and four beautiful grandchildren. He leaves behind his wife Joan, son Michael and grandchildren Nikki and Mikey; daughter Michelle and husband Mike Jones; daughter Kris and husband Ray Medrano and grandsons Trenton and Bryson; his sister Rose and Gene Trenaki and son Jonathon (Samantha); sister Charlotte Sypula and late husband Tom and their children, Sara and husband Rico Dillard; and their late son Tommy; two great nephews Antonio and Cameron; brother-in-law Robert and Roberta Sarniak; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mike was very involved with his fraternity, Delta Sigma Phi and his fraternity brothers at Gannon University for the past 50 years. These brothers were so close and supportive of each other and they had so many fun reunions near and far from Erie, PA. For the last seven years, Mike was involved in working with the alumni in Colorado.

Mike has given so much of himself to his family, organizations, and his community which include the Jaycees in Rochester, NY; he was on Steering Committees and Board of Directors in Fort Collins, CO; Hospice Leadership in Fort Collins; Parent Advisory Board of Bauder Elementary and Blevins Junior High; Past Exalted Ruler of Fort Collins Elks Lodge Post 804; Character of Fort Collins; Executive Director of the Poudre School Foundation; Poudre School District Bond and Mill Committee, Team Fort Collins; Boy’s and Girl’s Clubs of Larimer County; Board Consultant to many non-profit organizations; Stewardship campaign at Saint John XXIII Catholic Church; and Allnutt Funeral Service.

Mike’s favorite time was watching his grandchildren playing baseball, softball, and football. He enjoyed his Pittsburg Steelers and the CSU Spirit Committee. Mike always wanted to make a difference in young people’s lives. He did all he could to help others and always saw the best in each person he met.

Thank you to all the people from Interim Health Care and Pathways Hospice who cared for Mike and were also there for our family. They are truly devoted and caring angels.

Mike loved life and all of his many friends. He will be greatly missed.

Mrs Demma and family,
Spending time with you and Mr. Demma was such an honor and a blessing, especially these last months. Finally, meeting Rose was also an honor. She is a remarkable person and an amazing sister.
These last few years, spending so much time with you both, had me feel like Mike was a father figure to me and those are some pretty hard shoes to fill!! Being with him in his time of need ( and yours) gave me such a warm, peaceful feeling, seeing Mike at such peace and knowing he was not afraid and that he accepted the Lord with such dignity was something very special and I cannot thank you enough for allowing me to spend time with him .
Easier said than done, just remember, he is ALWAYS with you , as a husband, father, papa, Uncle, brother, and a great friend. He will be so greatly missed but his memory will live on forever . That's something you can be guaranteed.
Love to you all,
Kathi
Ive looked all over for the picture we have of Tommys graduation where Mike dressed up as a woman and actually stayed like that until the wee hours!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Joan,
I am so sorry for your loss.
Your generosity, together, was not lost on me, when you welcomed me into your home while I was seeking a house there in Fort Collins. I appreciated our lively conversations and the love you both were so often expressing about your kids, grandkids, and the "kids" at church. I also remember your phenomenal lasagne...
Thank you for all your love. Mike will be greatly missed, and my heart goes out to you at this time.
Love and prayers,
Monica Elsinger

I am heartbroken to hear the news about Mike’s passing. Nevertheless, I know he is in a much better place.

Mike’s work in the community and commitment to excellence certainly is a portrait of his character. I had the pleasure of working with Mike in several capacities, which was always a pleasant experience. He always exemplified professionalism at its best.

He often asked me to speak to PTA and PTO groups about substance abuse when I was a police officer. Working with him in the 70’s through my mayorship was an honor. I loved his volunteerism with Character Fort Collins, an initiative that my office started in 2001. He and others were champions of the cause and still are.

Mike had a spirit of love that cared for everyone. He and I shared adoption stories, Which I shared in my personal memoir book about his experience.

I’m sure when he arrived in heaven, God told him, “well done my good and faithful servant!”

The Janicki family have so many laughs and memories told of some pretty amazing adventures with all of the kids growing up. I am sure Nick and Mike and Shorty are having some good times.

Love you Joan and Family -

Mike was one special man!

Barb and I agree that knowing Mike Demma made us each a better person. That's just the kind of man Mike was. He made every one he met better. He will be dearly missed. While we won't be at the service today in person, please know we are with you in thought and spirit.

I’m very sorry for your loss!
Although the overlap between Mike & myself in our fraternity at Gannon was shorter than others who knew him better, I always considered Mike a model for great citizenship that has influenced how I’ve conducted myself since those very early years.
He and you are in my prayers.
