

Master Sergeant Richard Carneski (Ret.), a decorated veteran of the United States Air Force, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on July 9, 2025. Born on January 20, 1954, in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, he was baptized at St. Stanislaus Church and graduated from the Greater Nanticoke Area School District in 1971. In 1974, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he proudly served for 21 years until his retirement.Throughout his distinguished military career, Master Sergeant Carneski earned more than 14 medals and commendations, including the Air Force Commendation Medal with three devices, the Air Force Achievement Medal, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor Device, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with five devices, and the National Defense Service Medal with bronze service star. He retired with the rank of Master Sergeant and was honored with an Honorable Discharge.
In 1975, he married Janice K. Carneski, and together they raised three children. He is survived by his children: Darrell S. Carneski, Richard H. Carneski, and Tiffany Carneski (spouse); his beloved granddaughter, Briana Eve Carneski-Gore; and his siblings: sister Gloria J. Patskan (partner David Bennage) of Drifton, PA; brother Joseph Carneski of Wilkes-Barre, PA; and sister Barbara Wydra of Virginia. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Geraldine Marshallick and Boleslaus Carneski; his
daughter, Paula Lynn Carneski-Gore (2017); his wife, Janice K. Carneski; his sister, Donna Morana; and his brothers, Chester Carneski and Raymond Carneski.
Richard held lifetime memberships with both the American Legion-where he loved to spend time and play Bingo-and the VFW. He was a loyal donor to various veterans' organizations, believing deeply in supporting those who serve and have served. Richard had a brilliant mind and a passion for history, captivating those around him with his detailed storytelling and vivid recollections. He had an uncanny fascination with Hollywood icons and singers-he could recall their dates of death and the exact locations of their graves, often sharing fascinating facts about their burials. He was also an incredible cook, wished he had fished more, and had a tender heart that showed in his acts of kindness toward people and animals alike. He gave freely, without expectation, and found purpose in helping others. He was a man of strong convictions and quiet humility, speaking with integrity and living a life of deep personal growth. As he aged, he embraced peace and redemption-reconnecting with loved ones, offering forgiveness, and sharing his wisdom. Richard was known for his generosity and his special bond with his neighbors, often gifting treats and surprising others with more candy than one could imagine. His legacy of love, strength, humor, and compassion lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Services will be held at Allnutt Funeral Chapel on Drake Road in Fort Collins, Colorado. A public viewing will be held on Thursday, August 7th, from 4:00 - 8:00 PM. The funeral service will take place on Friday, August 8th, at 11:00 AM, followed by a procession to Lakeview Cemetery in Windsor, Colorado,where Richard will receive full military honors.
The family welcomes all to attend a Celebration of Life at The American Legion Post 109, 624 Ash St, Windsor, CO 80550, immediately following the honors ceremony at the cemetery. In keeping with Richard's wishes, his service, honors, and celebration of life are open to all veterans who wish to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard's honor to a local veterans' or volunteer organization of your choosing.
Master Sergeant Carneski-beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, neighbor, and friend-will be deeply missed and forever treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
