He is survived by his late in life partner, Emma Ball of Washington State, and is preceded in death by his partner of 28 years, Kay Smith, who died in 2022. Richard was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana and lived in many places in the US including Indiana, Colorado, Washington State, and Alaska. He loved the mountains and he loved his country. Throughout his life he held many different jobs in transportation, but what he most enjoyed was guiding whale tours in Juno, Alaska.
A Military Burial Service will be held and Richard will be laid to eternal rest with Kay at Pikes Peak National Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado on Wednesday, May 14th, 2025 at 1pm sharp.
