Dearly loved as a father, a brother, and a true friend, he will be remembered for his big heart and bright spirit.
Born in Wheatcroft, Kentucky on September 23rd, 1954, Rick was the only son of Willitta (Montgomery) and Richard Arther Sophy, who precede him in death. He grew up in Kentucky with his one sister, Tina. Following high school, Rick joined the Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam conflict. After his tour of duty, Rick began a career as an over-the-road truck driver. He worked hard all his life to support his family.
Rick was a proud father to his one son, Richard “Kyle” Sophy. He was a caring father and loved Kyle with his whole heart. Rick was supportive of Kyle in all that he did, always there to lend a hand. Watching Kyle grow into a man, then a husband, then a father himself was Rick’s greatest joy in this life. Raising Kyle was Rick’s proudest accomplishment.
Rick was a kind man who never knew a stranger. He had an inviting smile and a certain warmth about him. He was a good friend, one that could be counted on. Rick enjoyed spending time outdoors and going fishing and camping. He especially enjoyed being with his animals and, more than anything else, spending time with his family. Rick was loved by many and will truly be missed.
He leaves behind his only son Kyle Sophy, daughter-in-law Jonelle, and granddaughter Kaidence; as well as the pets he adored: kitties Cali & Luna, and his pup, Pepper. He is also survived by his sister, Tina Shea, who resides in Oklahoma; and dear friends, who were more like family, Jonette and Regina Folger, Kathy Regan, and Edward Hooper.
