

She was raised on a farm near Julesburg, CO, where she rode four miles to school on her pony. She graduated from Julesburg High School in 1937, and then moved to Fort Collins where she became the Administrative Assistant to the Supervisor of Roosevelt National Forest. This is where she met George Turner. They married in 1941 at Rita’s parent’s farm home near Chappell, NE. Rita and George would have celebrated their 75th Anniversary in Oct, 2016.
After WWII, while working for the US Forest Service, George and Rita moved to Delta, then Grand Junction, and finally back to Fort Collins. Rita was the Administrative Assistant at Mesa College then Colorado A and M College, and finally Fort Collins High School. During this time she enjoyed raising her children. They both enjoyed bridge, square dancing, social gatherings, and involvement in the First United Methodist Church. She loved cooking and sewing. They traveled extensively after retirement.
Rita loved her family and was very devoted to balancing work life and taking care of her family.
Rita is survived by her husband, George, who will celebrate his 102nd birthday in October. Also her two sisters, Ferne Sutton and Marguerite Caton. Her children include Shirley Blair (Ken) of Gunnison, Dan Turner (Jan) of Fort Collins, and four grandchildren: David Blair (Laura) of Georgetown, TX, Steve Blair (Myriah) of Eagle, CO, Anna Turner of Fort Collins, Zach Turner of Virginia, and six great grandchildren: Joslin, Cole, Samantha, Ty, Tyler, and Dylan.
