Robert Eugene Apodaca (Bobby), beloved husband, father, brother, grandpa, and friend, was unexpectedly called home to be with His heavenly Father on November 11, 2021 at age 57. While we are heartbroken and in shock, we mourn only for ourselves, but rejoice for him. There is no place that he would have rather been than face to face with his Savior!
Words cannot express the ache and sense of loss felt by all whose lives he touched. Bob was known for his love for God and for the Bible, his love for his wife, his children and grandchildren, his brother and family, and for his friends. He will be missed for so many reasons: his unique perspective on life, his humor, his love for meaningful conversation, and his devotion to understanding how God builds His church here on earth and for what it means for Jesus to be the head of His church.
He was known for his love for learning and his curiosity about so many things in life, his love for music, the way that he constantly initiated in friendships, his love for unseen treasure (and his lack of love for materialism), his strength in leading and protecting his family, his devotion to working to support his family, his willingness to give to others in need, his redemptive nature (he had no idea what it was to hold a grudge), and his boldness for truth even when it cost him his reputation.
Bob is loved beyond words and will be missed by so many: His wife for nearly 35 years, Susan Apodaca (Fickett), their children: Jonathan (Kendra and children Hadassah and Dellah), Nathan (Casey), Anthony, Leanna (Christian and son Toviah), Krysta and Renee, his twin brother Paul Apodaca (wife Sandra and daughters Jade and Kellie), and many other loving relatives and friends. He was proceeded in death by his mother Lillian Apodaca and then lost his Father, Robert Apodaca, two days after his own passing.
Bob spent his first 18 years in Los Alamos, NM, then went to New Mexico State University and on to University of Arizona where he received his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Later, he would receive his master’s in Electrical Engineering from National Technological University. He worked tirelessly as a software engineer to support his family. His favorite time spent in formal education was when he attended Fuller Seminary for a time.
He and Susan met in high school in Mrs. Church’s biology class, fell in love, and married in 1986. They enjoyed a profoundly deep and loving relationship for nearly 35 years, had eight children (Bobby has now joined twins who passed away early in their marriage), and shared a love for God, for the church and for children, music, and countless other things. Bobby was a devoted family man and husband and will be missed beyond what words can even begin to express.
We are all so grateful to have had the privilege of sharing life’s journey with such an amazing father, grandpa, friend and brother, and to be able to celebrate his life now with our friends and family.
