

FT. COLLINS - Robert Keiss of Ft. Collins, CO passed away peacefully surrounded by family May 24, 2023. Bob was born to Edwin and Ruby Keiss in Grand Island, NE where he grew up with his twin brother, William. Bob attended Colorado A&M College (CSU) and obtained his BS degree in 1954. Upon graduation, he began his military service at Ft. Sill OK in Artillery Officer training. Later he was assigned as 1St Lieutenant to the 4th Field Artillery mule pack unit at Ft. Carson CO. This assignment included training elite forces at Camp Hale near Leadville in winter survivaland warfare. In 1955 he married his wife Judy ina military ceremony. Bob was very proud of his time in the Army and gave many presentations about commanding the last operating animal unit in the U.S Army. After the service, Bob completed his Masters Degree in Bacteriology and started his working career with the Colorado Division of Wildlife as a research biologist. Bob rounded out his career serving as Regional Manager for the SEregion and then as a Lobbyist for Colorado DOW.
Bob was an accomplished artist, avid bicycle rider and enjoyed varied outdoor activities in the Colorado mountains. He and Judy also enjoyed many winters in Port Aransas, TX after retirement.He is survived by his wife Judy of 67 years, histwin brother Bill, daughter Carrie (Ruben), son Christopher (Mary Ann), grandchildren Emily(Matt), Annalyn (Aaron), David (Eira), Katharine(Dustin), Andres (Audrey), Andrew (Evangeline)and Abby, 4 great-grandchildren and his niece and nephews. Bob was a very kind person with a dry and witty sense of humor who deeply loved his family and we will fondly remember camping, river trips, skiing, fishing and family dinners over the years. A memorial service will be at the Ft. Collins Senior Center, 1200 Raintree Dr., June 10, 10:00am with a light reception following the service.
