Roger was the third child of Geraldine and W.R. (Ray) Lam. He was born in Kermit, Texas. His family moved to Durango, Colorado when he was five years old. He was forever grateful that he grew up in Southwest Colorado.
He is survived by his brothers Conner (Lynda), Warren (Kathy), David (Tina), and his sister Liz, and his wife, Margaret. He is also survived by his sisters-in-laws Kathy Peterson and Martha Lovelace, his nieces and nephews Abby, Caitlin, Brennan, Anna, Austin, Wyatt, Audrey, Andrew, Gabe, Lisa, Kris, Abby, and Laura, his aunt Jean Buford, and his cousin Annie Stephenson (JD), and numerous other cousins. He had a many decades long friendship with Patrick McGuire and Phil Parkinson (Linda), and with friends from his days as a student at CSU.
Roger was a lifelong student, he loved to take classes. He attended Durango High School, Colorado State University, Ft. Lewis College, and the University of Northern Colorado. It was only fitting that teaching was his calling.
Roger’s first teaching job was teaching English to Vietnamese and Laotian refugees from the Viet Nam War. He continued with adult education, teaching reading, writing, and English language classes.
Roger’s niche was Junior High, strong evidence that he had a good sense of humor. He taught reading and was the Library/Media Specialist at Lesher Junior High School in Ft. Collins for 25 years. He made many friends at Lesher.
He was active in the Poudre Education Association (PEA). He liked advocating for others.
His hobbies included reading books, writing, woodworking, fly fishing, hiking, camping, skiing, following current events, birdwatching, going for walks, listening to music, and collecting original paintings.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, September 7, 2025 at 10:00 A.M. at Lee Martinez Park, 600 N. Sherwood Street, Ft. Collins, CO.
