He worked as an orderly before attending and graduating from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine in 1980. He was a chief resident at the University of Kentucky and was selected to study medicine at the Royal Brompton National Heart and Lung Hospital in London, England, bringing along his wife, Nancy, and baby daughter, Sarah. He continued his fellowship in cardiology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, where he and Nancy welcomed their twins, Wyatt and Julia. In 1987 he joined the Cardiology Associates of Albany, GA where he practiced nuclear cardiology. Stephen and Nancy had their fourth child, Brooks, in 1989 in Albany, GA. Stephen lived in Albany until 2019, when he moved to Atlanta, GA and then Fort Collins, CO in 2021.
He enjoyed many hobbies including cycling, riding motorcycles, discovering new music, and going to the shooting range. He loved history, was an avid reader, and an aspiring herpetologist. He was always ready for a joke and a laugh. “If you’ll excuse me, I’m late for a nap.”
