Though she was blessed with 90 wonderful years of life, Sylvia was a woman of such remarkable strength, intelligence, and determination that her loss is deeply felt by all who knew her.
Born on October 16, 1935, in Inglewood, California, to Loyal Linwood Frandsen and Jane Dyson Law, Sylvia lived a life filled with vibrancy and zest, always with a positive attitude and an unwavering devotion to those she loved. Affectionately known as “Mimi”, she truly loved working with people. Her professional journey was diverse and filled with service, spanning roles from Executive Assistant to Customer Service and Hospitality. Notably, she served as the very first Goodwill Ambassador for Cracker Barrel Restaurants and dedicated her time as a hospital volunteer in retirement. No matter the role, she was known for being meticulously prepared, thoughtful, and persistent.
On March 25, 2005, following an extended courtship, Sylvia married John Farinelli at Keoniloa Bay in Kauai, Hawaii. They enjoyed over 20 years together before his passing in 2021. In 2022, Sylvia moved back to Colorado to be with her family. She definitely appreciated her independence, continuing to drive and shop whenever the weather was good. A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Spring Park Ward, Fort Collins Stake), Sylvia found joy in her community, especially her Writing Group and her Flower Arrangement classes at The Winslow. At home, she loved doing everything with her beloved Boston Terrier, Lulu, including coloring at night while watching reruns of The Golden Girls.
Above all, Sylvia adored her family. She was a constant helping hand and treasured family gatherings and the holidays for any chance to hold one of her great-grandchildren, especially at Christmas. Her legacy continues through her three children: Marc Cousins (Sherry), Rick Cousins (Wendy), and Leslie Cousins; her five grandchildren: Zack Cousins (Brooke), Jake Cousins (Megan Miller), Alexis Cousins (Zach Speed), Leanza Kilmury (Murray), and Maddie Randolph (Rob); and her ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; and her brother, Donald Loyal Frandsen.
A Graveside Service will be held as Sylvia is laid to rest on February 21, 2026, at 1:00 pm at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Fort Collins, Colorado. An Open House Memorial Gathering for fellowship and remembrance will follow; light refreshments will be provided.
In honor of Sylvia’s deep love for animals, the family suggests that donations be made to your local Humane Society.
While this loss is difficult, the family finds peace in Sylvia’s enduring faith and unwavering belief that she now will be with her loved ones once again.
