Alice Marlene (Myers) Payne shed her earthly bonds two days after her 75th birthday on December 30th 2021, at Town and Country Manor in Santa Ana, CA.
Alice was one of six children born to the late Ruth and Harold Myers, Sr. Her siblings are W. Harold Myers, Jr. (Maxine) of Richmond, VA; Janet E. Myers of Richmond, VA; John Dana Myers (Dolores) of Columbia, VA; Dr. R. Denise Myers of Minneapolis, MN; and Michele Myers-Heard of Fontana, CA.
Alice was a 1964 graduate of Maggie L. Walker High School (Richmond) and a 1968 graduate of Virginia Union University (Richmond) where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and is now an “Ivy Beyond the Wall.”
Alice received her Master of Science degree from California State University, Fullerton. She retired after 17 years of service in the CA Community College System as Professor Emeritus at Cypress College. Alice was also a recipient of the Virginia Union University Presidential Award due to her numerous contributions and support of her Alma Mater.
Alice was a very special lady who was loved and adored by family and friends alike. She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Haywood Anderson Payne Jr.; three wonderfully devoted children, Haywood Anderson Payne, III of Costa Mesa, CA, Christopher Drennin Payne (Sunny) of Dana Point, CA, and Jindra Rose McIntosh (Josh) of Edmonton in Alberta, Canada; and three lovely grandchildren, Elanah Snow McIntosh, Titus Anderson McIntosh, and newly born Solei Alice Payne. Other survivors include her five siblings and spouses; her brother-in-law, Robert L. Payne, Sr. (Beverly); sister-in-law, Karen Payne Woods; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The Memorial Services for Alice will be concurrently held on Thursday, February 24th, 2022, at two locations: McAulay & Wallace Mortuary, 902 N. Harbor Blvd in Fullerton, CA at 10am PST, and at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, 116 E. Brookland Park Blvd. in Richmond, VA at 1pm EST.
