Chuck was born in Chicago, Ill to June Rose (Lynch) Wheeler and Charles Elbert Wheeler. He had an older sister, Joanne (deceased) and a younger sister, Mary. When he was 10, his parents divorced and his Mother moved the children to Los Angeles. After high school, Chuck earned a degree in Commercial Art through Woodbury College in Los Angeles.
He worked for The ALL Company for over 40 years, eventually managing a roofing wholesale business for them in Rosemead (ALCO). Chuck loved his suppliers, customers, employees and his work there. He attended their weddings, births and funerals. Many times, his family was told about how honest, fair and helpful he was. He retired in 2001.
Chuck and Verna were married in 1983 at PPC by Dave Throop. Their love for each other was obvious to all who knew them.
Chuck loved his Lord and PPC. He made many props for children’s plays and VBS programs. He built the outside wooden cross that is decorated with flowers at Easter. He was an active member of “The Fixer Uppers” and built many wheelchair ramps, railings, repaired doors and windows and many other odd jobs. He served 2 terms as an elder and 2 as a Deacon. He loved helping anyone, anyway he could. He belonged to the Wed. morning Men’s Bible Study Group and he and Verna were members of the Monday evening Bible study.
Chuck raised 3 sons and was very proud of them. He helped raise Verna’s grandchildren after their mother passed away. He loved them as his own and they loved him as their “real” grandpa. He truely loved being a grandpa to all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Chuck and Verna bought a “fixer upper” house in Placentia and remodeling it was their life’s work. It brought them so much pleasure, working together to make the house into the home they wanted. Chuck could do plumbing, roofing, electrical, brickwork, landscaping and car repairing just to name a few.
Chuck belonged to several fishing clubs, one being a Christian fishing club. He also belonged to an Antique Outboard Motor Club. He was outgoing, friendly and interested in others. He was always finding ways he could help people, even those he didn’t know.
Chuck was an avid fisherman, fishing every kind there was. He tied flies. He wrapped fishing rods and built fish cleaning tables, etc. He chartered several deep sea-fishing trips for the Church. He provided a program for the senior group at PPC about fishing and every year, he provided a program for the Circle of Friends Group where they fished for tin fish with magnets instead of hooks. It was always the highlight of his year. He mentored several young boys at Church, taking them fishing when he had a chance. He loved them and it. For several years he helped decorate and pull the PPC trailer in the Placentia Heritage Parade.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Verna of 38 years, his sons Mark (Sharon), Kevin (Rene) and Matt (Maria).and by his grandchildren Portia, Katee, Becky, Mike, Jackson, Kaden and Isabella, great grandchildren Daniel and Kimberly. He is also survived by his sister Mary and her family.
If there ever was a man who loved his family, it was Chuck. And his family loved him just as much. He was a great example for all of us.
