Born in Santa Rosa, California, David’s early years were spent on the tree-lined streets of Woodside California. Riding bikes, playing sports, and “freeing” the neighbors’ caged rabbits are some of the stories that always brought a smile to his face. As a child, David threw himself into scouts. He achieved the apex achievement of Eagle Scout and lived the entirety of his life by the very tenants of the Boy Scout Law: Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean and Reverent.
A standout football player at Woodside High, David achieved his childhood goal of playing at Stanford University- where he would often joke that “…I majored in football”. Loyal, Helpful, Kind: David would leave Stanford to help his Mom as she faced health issues.
Shortly after moving to LA and prior to his career as a LA City Firefighter, David was a member of the Dukes of Hazard security team. Experiences included an actors’ strike (So both sets of the Duke cousins were protected by David) as well as a US tour that took David to many a Southern Mall, sports field, and “ way too many Waffle Houses”.
Brave and Helpful: Part of David’s core DNA. He embodied the Boy Scout Law and felt a calling to be a Firefighter. He dedicated many years as a Firefighter, serving and protecting the residents of LA during some of its most trying times. Honored by LA Sheriff Sherman Block, David received the top Civilian Accommodation for the Heroic Actions of entering a burning building and saving the life of another human being…..on his day off.
Shy, quiet, and reserved. Not adjectives that would be used to describe David. Friendly, Cheerful, Loyal and Trustworthy: His energy, love of people, and booming voice filled the room in all the right ways. David would always say, “I don’t want to look back on life with regrets”. “If only..” were words struck from his vocabulary. Much like he did on the football field, David tackled life head-on, lived life to the fullest, and brightened the lives of those lucky enough to have known him.
Preceded by his Mother and many from his firefighting Family, David is survived by Family, Friends, and Loved Ones that span the Nation. Helpful, Kind: In lieu of a formal service and flowers, David requested that donations be made to St Jude’s Hospital (for oncology research) or the ASPCA.
As long as we live, you will live.
