Durand Audley Stewart Baker, 1967-2014, suffered a sudden and unexpected heart attack on July 23, 2014. A beloved and precious son, he is survived by his father, Dr. Charles A. Baker, and mother, Dr. Martha Baker-Jordan and a host of other family and friends. Durand was a scholarship student at the New England Conservatory of Music and completed his Degree in Jazz Studies at the University of Southern California. Durand was an exceptionally gifted percussionist, teacher and massage therapist. He loved life, people, laughing and making people laugh and, above all, performing for live audiences. Music was his greatest passion. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 30 at McAulay & Wallace Mortuary Chapel, 902 N. Harbor Dr., Fullerton, CA 92832. A future burial service will be private for immediate family members only. His parents feel that the following poem, (author unknown) expresses their memories of Durand as well as what they feel would be his hopes for those who will always remember him and his beautiful soul. "A BEAUTIFUL LIFE" Id like the memory of me To be a happy one. Id like to leave an afterglow Of smiles when life is done. Id like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways. Of happy times and laughing times And bright and sunny days. Id like the tears of those who grieve To dry before the sun, Of happy memories that I leave When life is done.
