Freddie Gayle Boyd

Freddie (Fred) Gayle Boyd, 81, died Monday, April 1, 2019 at his home in Yorba Linda, California following a brief illness.He leaves his wife of 32 years, Doris (Yung) Boyd; and from his first marriage his son Patrick Boyd and his wife Rebecca Boyd, his son Randall Boyd and his wife Jill Boyd, his son Timothy Boyd, his daughter Shannon Wright and her husband Alan Wright; his brother William Boyd and his wife Linda Boyd; his beautiful grandchildren and great grandchildren; and many dear nephews, nieces and friends.Born in Edom, Van Zandt County, Texas and raised in Lubbock, Texas the son of Freddie and Annice (Hightower) Boyd. He spent many years residing in different parts of the United States depending on his job assignments and a resident of Yorba LInda in the last 28 years.In his early years Mr. Boyd would help at his father’s Boyd’s Grocery a small local grocery/gas station in Carlisle, Texas. After graduating from Lubbock Senior High School in May 1955 he attended Texas Tech graduating in January 1959 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and a minor in Physics.  After graduating college he worked for The Boeing Company in Seattle, Washington as an aeronautics systems engineer and subsequently Hughes Aircraft Company/Raytheon Systems Company as a national and international air defense engineering program manager.Mr. Boyd was a member of his high school and college choirs and developed a life long love for singing and had an extensive musical repertoire. Mr. Boyd spent many wonderful hours singing for and with friends and family. Mr. Boyd was also a natural athlete and enjoyed watching and playing sports. An avid golfer he was a longtime member of Palm Desert Resort Country Club and also enjoyed playing at the numerous local Orange County golf courses.A funeral service is scheduled for April 30, 2019 at 1:00pm from McAulay and Wallace Mortuary 18311 Lemon Drive, Yorba Linda with a reception to follow.  In lieu of flowers the family would like to suggest donations for UCI Parkinson’s Disease Research Fund attn: Dr. Neal Hermanowicz, Irvine, California 92697
