“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. “ 2 Corinthians 5:8 Our beloved George W. Welborn passed away at his home of 53 years on Thursday, July 5, 2018. George was born on April 5th, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan to Imogene and Robert Welborn. Growing up in Detroit instilled in him a love of all Detroit sports, boxing, motown, jazz, and fast cars. After high school in 1954 he entered the US Air Force and served for four years. George married Evangelina Trevino of San Antonio, Texas, in 1960 after spotting her at a USO dance, where it was literally “love at first sight.” George went on to become a beautician and salon owner, settling down in Rowland Heights, California. He had an infectious smile and a hug for everyone. No one was a stranger to George, and one would consider himself blessed to sit and listen to one of his many anecdotes and entertaining stories. Although we are heartbroken at his passing, we find joy in knowing that we will one day be reunited in Heaven. He is predeceased by his parents and older brother Bob Welborn. George is survived by his loving family; his wife Evangelina Welborn, daughter Georgette deVroede, and the light of his life-his grandchildren, Samuel and Isabella deVroede.
