James Collie Knight

Captain James (Jim) Collie Knight, age 90, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2017 surrounded by his four children, along with the loving staff of Sunrise of Yorba Linda, and Vitas Hospice Care team. James was born September 4, 1926 in San Francisco, CA to George & Ivia Knight. He dedicated his life to serving our country with a 32 year career in the Navy & Coast Guard.  In 1976, Jim, a WWII & Vietnam veteran, retired from the USCG Jarvis 0725 in Honolulu, Hawaii. After Retirement from the Coast Guard, he completed law school at Western State School of Law and practiced Family and Criminal law until the age of 79. Jim was well loved and admired by all who knew him.  He had great love for his sisters, Vera, Mary, Margaret and Dorothy, who all passed before him. He was also predeceased by his wife of 61 years Catherine A. Knight in 2013.  He is survived by his children: Patrice Elmes (and Dave) Shelton, WA; Nancy Majer, Jurupa Valley, CA; Timothy Wm. Knight, Olympia WA; and Randy and Kim (Knight) Novak of Placentia, CA as well as eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, all of whom made his world go round.  In the days leading up to his passing, the men of the USCG Captains Table, his Sunrise poker group, special friends Bernie Gordon and Celestine Rykos of Yorba Linda Sunrise, and his ability to go and watch his twin grandsons play basketball, made each day more meaningful.  For those that knew & loved him, he wants you to know, “He’s Fine”.Loving Parents Catherine A. Knight have been cremated and are being laid to rest together on what would have been our mother’s 85th birthday in a small military graveside ceremony September 14, 2017 at 10:00am at Riverside National Cemetery, located at 22495 Van Buren Blvd, Riverside, CA  92518. Please arrive at 9:45 at Staging Area #1.
