John Jerrick McKenna

John Jerrick McKenna passed away peacefully with his family by his side at home in Fullerton, CA on Tuesday, July 26, 2016. He was 83 years old. John was born on December 18, 1932 in Kingman, KS, the son of Edward and Therese (Jerrick) McKenna. He was raised in Kingman, KS with his 2 brothers, Tim and Mike. They were wonderful sons and worked hard helping their dad on the family ranch. John attended college at Kansas State University for 2 years before being drafted into the Army, where he served his country for 2 years before returning to KSU to obtain his degree.  In 1961, John’s employment with the Department of Agriculture took him to Chicago, IL where he met his future bride, Mary Alice Carberry. John and Mary Alice were married in Chicago on September 29, 1962 and soon began creating their lovely family. In 1973, John's employment relocated him to California and he, Mary Alice and their 4 children began their new life in Fullerton. John was a Grand Knight and Financial Secretary for the Knights of Columbus and a parishioner of St. Juliana's Catholic Church. He enjoyed watching sports (especially the Angels, Notre Dame and KSU), playing cards, golfing and spending time with his family. John is survived by his wife, Mary Alice, his children John Michael (Robin), Edward Carberry, Marjorie Ann (John Harvey), Clare Ellen, brother Dr. Tim (Pat), grandchildren Timmy, Terese, Tommy, Taylor Ann, Dominique and Michelle, sisters-in-law, Virginia McKenna and Veronica Carberry, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Dr. Michael McKenna, and brother-in-law, Jerry Carberry. Services will be held at St. Juliana’s Catholic Church, 1316 N.
