Myers, John Franklin Jack , a longtime Yorba Linda resident and pharmacist affectionately known as Jack to family and friends lost his short battle with cancer on February 4, 2013. He was born on May 7, 1937 in Hornell, New York, the second son of Anthony James and Helen Nichols Myers. He grew up in the small town of Catskill, along the Hudson River with his older brother Jim, his younger sister Mary Jane, and the youngest brother Joe. After obtaining his Pharmacy Degree at Fordham University in the 1959, he served his military obligation in the United States Army at Fort Dix and Fort Lewis. Tired of the cold weather, he drove himself to California to take the California Pharmacy Boards. Once here, he made lifelong friends, and eventually met his wife of almost 50 years, Judy Ybarrola Myers. In1968 they purchased the B&B Pharmacy and moved their young family from Long Beach, CA to the newly incorporated city of Yorba Linda. The City, the B& B Pharmacy, their family of five children, and the new community all thrived and grew. He happily spent the last forty five years of his life working and recreating, guiding and supporting his family, clients, and friends in his favorite place, Yorba Linda, California. He was welcomed into the local business and medical communities and immediately became active in the Chamber of Commerce, the Yorba Linda Rotary, the local YMCA and theYorba Linda Country Club. He helped the community grow and live up to its motto, the Land of Gracious Living .He and a neighbor opened the Village Bike store and with six local partners the Yorba Linda Bowling Alley was conceived, built and put into action.. He became a Charter Board Member of the newly established Bank of Yorba Linda, now First Bank He actively participated in the building and development of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church and faith community and he supported Roland Bigonger in establishing the privately funded Nixon Presidential Library. At the same time he was the pharmacist in town always available to fill a prescription 24/7 or give council whenever needed. His generosity to all had no boundaries. His Pharmacy walls were covered with local team sponsor plaques- JUSA, Bobbettes, Little League, YMCA, St. Josephs, Rosary, Servite, Esperanza, Scouting, etc.- were all there. On weekends he was at many of those sporting events cheering for his children and their friends.. The B & B pharmacy was truly a family business and which included Jacks mother, Helen, wife, Judy and all five children at one time or another. All the employees became extended family and all were guided and encouraged by him to attain their goals; to complete college, to apply to Pharmacy or Medical School. He was recognized as Yorba Linda Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year and Orange County Pharmacists Association Pharmacist of the Year and one of his proud achievements was accepting an invitation to the White House where he presented a check to Nancy Reagan from the McKesson Foundation and the Independent Retail Pharmacists Association in support of her Just Say No to Drugs program. During the last ten years of his semi-retirement he enjoyed spending time with his adult children and his three grandchildren, John Leon, a recent college graduate, Kate Myers, a soon to be high school graduate and Sarah Myers a high school Sophomore. Time with Kate & Sarah meant fun trips to Maine. Summer always meant the annual family reunion camping at South Carlsbad State Beach. There were also trips to Mammoth to ski or golf, cruises with friends, golfing with his buddies at YLCC, working part time for CVS Pharmacy and still cheering loudly for his current favorite local teams; St. Callistus, Loyola, Servite and the Loyola Marymount University Womens Soccer Team.
