Lilly Ann Grannis was born on April 29th, 1966 in Glendale, California. She passed away on March 3, 2024, with her husband by her side after battling multiple myeloma for six years. She was 57 years old, and she deserved many more.
Lilly is survived by her loving husband Jerry Grannis, her daughters Grace and Ella, her mother Lillian Salas, siblings Cissy, Artie, Ryan, and Paula, and beloved family pets Margo and Piper—who will miss her generosity. She was preceded by her father Arturo Salas in 2017.
Throughout her life, Lilly displayed a breadth of talent and treated every one of her passions with the same focus, earning Miss Majorette in California from 1978-1979 among other distinctions. Lilly studied Social Ecology at the University of California, Irvine, graduating in 1991 with academic honors. She simultaneously pursued education in the legal field, becoming a certified paralegal and securing a job offer which would define her career for years to come. Since 1991, Lilly dedicated endless time and effort to her role as an examiner with the Orange County Court system, earning the love and respect of coworkers and superiors alike. However, she considered her children to be her greatest achievement, and she devoted all of her multitude skills and capacities to ensuring that her daughters received the best education and experiences. Lilly actively participated in every class, notably dressing as Frida Kahlo to teach a Meet the Masters art course for both of her daughters’ elementary years. Her enthusiasm for learning knew no bounds, always a source of help and knowledge—whether the topic was taxes, financial literacy, or classic literature, Lilly always had an answer and an opinion.
In 1995, Jerry and Lilly moved into their first home in Chino Hills, California, where she would live until her passing. She was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2018, the beginning of a long and arduous journey that tested her resolve and revealed the depth of her strength. Lilly learned to love her curly hair again and inspired many throughout her time at City of Hope, where her portait still appears among the doctors and nurses who dedicated their care and attention to her.
We will remember Lilly for her beautiful smile, her brilliant mind, her unfailing generosity, and her unbelievable sweet tooth. She taught us to cherish our moments together, and to make the most of each and every day. We love you, Lilly.
A graveside service for Lilly will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Rose Hills Memorial Park, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, CA 90601.
