Maria Elizabeth Swanson

Maria Elizabeth (Betty) Swanson, age 87, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2018 in Los Angeles, California. Born on March 25, 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri, she was the daughter of Reba Connor and Robert Ulman. She was a long-time resident of Fresno, California having moved there when she was sixteen years old. She and Arvey were married for 40 years and loved traveling the world, from Europe to the Great Wall of China. She worked for the Fresno Community Hospital for 33 years, but always had time for church activities and her hobbies. She especially loved spending time with her family and friends. She is lovingly remembered by her husband Arvey Swanson, her children: John Giles, Marcella Schurter, Charles Giles, Mary Rewa and her stepchildren Andrew Swanson and Linda Bogdan. She also had nine beloved grandchildren: Andrea, Megan, Katherine, Emily, James, Patrick, Kelley, Cooper and Raley, as well as four great-grandchildren: Jacob, Eric, Rhys and Lorelei. She was predeceased by her first husband Robert Giles and their son Christopher Giles. The funeral service will be held on March 21, 2018 at 11AM at McAulay & Wallace Mortuaries, 902 N. Harbor Blvd, Fullerton, CA 92832. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Salvation Army.
