

The seventh of ten children, she was born on April 19, 1933 in Rochester, Pennsylvania to the late Anthony and Alta Vodenichar.
She graduated from Rochester High School and later attended Kent State University, majoring in Psychology.
On April 9, 1954 she married Chester Duane Young and together they raised three children.
After moving to California in 1973, Marjorie volunteered at various organizations, including St. Jude Medical Center, and Children’s Guild of Orange County.
In 1992 Marjorie and Chet moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky where Marjorie was the Executive Secretary to the President of Camping World. Upon Chet’s passing in 2002 Marjorie moved back to California.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she had been employed as a secretary and she also taught Bible Study there for nearly 20 years.
For the past two years Marjorie lived at Sunnycrest Senior Living and was the President of the Resident’s Council.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chet, her son-in-law, Brent Fairbanks, her three brothers, Willis, Anthony, and Dale Vodenichar, and three sisters, Dorothy Pfaff, Alta Musgrave, and Jean Slingluff.
She is survived by her three children, Debra Akehurst (Tom), Sherrills Ford, North Carolina; Susan Fairbanks, Anaheim, California; and Tim Young (Tina), La Habra, California; five grandchildren, Christine Akehurst, Jo Golden, Jennifer Fairbanks, Tyler Young, and Tara Young, as well as two great-grandchildren, Kaitlin Stillman and Korrah Brandt; and three sisters; Paula Evans, Nancy Knight, and Carol Flickinger, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Marjorie’s memorial service will be Saturday, September 30, 2023, 11:00 am at St Paul Lutheran Church, 111 W Las Palmas Drive, Fullerton, California, with a reception in the Fellowship hall immediately following.
