Roy Victor Ketring V was born April 19, 1996. He quickly became “Buddy” or “Cinco” and started capturing hearts with his never ending smile. Buddy grew up in a dual household and attended church services at First Baptist Yorba Linda and Placentia Presbyterian Church. Schools included Wagner Elementary, New Hope Christian, and River Heights Intermediate. He accepted Christ during Vacation Bible School, and was Baptized by Pastor Cliff in Huntington Beach in 2008. Buddy was excited about his love for Christ, and took the Bible to heart, often sharing verses with others who needed the comfort and strength. In 2010, he moved to Austin Texas with his mom and other family members and attended Cedar Park High School where he continued his love of theater acting and writing movie scripts and found a new passion in video filming and editing. After graduating, with honors, Buddy returned to California to land his dream job at Disneyland and to attend film school. While he never made it to film school, he was able to produce a few movie trailers, develop a movie critic blog, and create a video podcast site focused on Disney (VEN Productions). He started doing movie trailers after he saw Guardians of the Galaxy 1. He said the trailer made the movie look awful, but it was awesome! And he didn’t want anyone else to miss seeing such a great movie because of a terrible trailer. That was just like him: always looking out for others. He always had a great heart. In school he received numerous special recognitions for going above and beyond in kindness and helping others. Many of the Disney family has shared how he helped them love life more - both at work and beyond. When Buddy was around, things were “much more better” as he would say. Buddy traveled ... a lot. He swam with dolphins in the Bahamas on a Disney Cruise, watched Lion King on Broadway for his 18th birthday, went camping in Utah, Disney world twice, and visited 9 other states, including Hawaii twice. He enjoyed water sports, running, the Patriots & the Celtics, the Disney Character Stitch, Kingdom Hearts, sushi, and Hot Vanilla from Coffee Bean. Buddy mostly lived a short distance from Disneyland and often had a season pass in hand for either Disney or another nearby theme park. But he wasn’t just a consumer of Disney - he was a DisNerd, a Disney Historian, and dreamed night and day of ways to make Disneyland even better. He would often joke “it’s really not possible to make this place any more awesome, but if I could tweak it, here’s how...” From an early age he wanted to be a Disney Conceptual Design Imagineer. Several school reports told of his Imagineering dream. When he got to his Last Wish trip at Disney Aulani in Hawaii, the staff asked if he could do one unique thing there, what would it be? Without hesitating, he said “Meet an Imagineer and really understand the resort, how it was made, and the plans for the future.” He was on vacation at a tropical resort, and thinking like an Imagineer. Although Buddy never realized his imagineering dream here, he said he would be building the Disney Heaven Resort. Buddy is survived by his Mom (Kerry Linda Martin), his Dad (Roy Ketring IV), step and half siblings Isaiah, Micah, and Elizabeth, grandparents Roy & Brenda Ketring, and grandma Chloreta Martin, plus many aunts, uncles, cousins, and other family members, and his Disney Family. Buddy was the Best Kid in the World, and now he’s “The Best Kid Ever.”
