Shelia Harrington, a long-term resident of Fullerton, California, passed away peacefully in Cedar City, Utah, on October 20, 2024, at the remarkable age of 105. Born on January 19, 1919, in Sherman, Texas, to Joseph Oliver Fowler and Lorraine Vee Fowler, Shelia faced a challenging childhood marked by her father's absence and her mother's illness. She also contracted polio at a young age, which further shaped her resilient spirit.
At just six years old, Shelia took on a maternal role for her younger brother, Otis, as their mother struggled with health issues. Despite these hardships, Shelia excelled in school, working in the classroom to earn her lunch, demonstrating her dedication and work ethic.
Her family's journey took them back and forth between Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. At 16, after her parents separated, Shelia spent cherished time with her grandparents in Texas. There, her grandfather, a cotton plantation owner and local doctor, inspired her with a sense of service as she rode in his horse and buggy to help neighbors in need.
While attending high school in Arkansas, Shelia fell in love with Henry (Hank) Harrington. After their marriage, they moved to Fullerton, California, where both worked at Hunt's Foods. When Henry was drafted into the Navy, Shelia bravely managed the household and raised their three children: Cholette Coffman of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Karen Prickett; and Jerry Harrington of Parowan, Utah.
Shelia is preceded in death by her husband, Hank; her daughter, Karen; and her great-granddaughter, Leigha. She is survived by her two children, five grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, all of whom carry on her legacy of love and faith.
A memorial service celebrating her extraordinary life will be held on November 15, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Loma Vista Cemetery.
Shelia Harrington will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
