On June 13, 2020, Steve Duffin was gently taken from us to fulfill God’s will and bring him home. Steve was born August 6, 1962 in Fullerton, California to his parents Jack and Terri Duffin. Steve’s early schooling was at St. Juliana Falconieri and upon graduation went on to Troy High School. He then attended Cal State Fullerton. He received a Bachelors degree in Communications/Journalism and a minor in Philosophy. Discerning while at Cal State he chose to enter the priesthood and entered St. John’s Seminary. He was ordained a priest in 1991. While a priest he spent time at St. Bonaventure, then St. Catherine's, St. Anne's, and St. Ceclilia's. He left the priesthood in 2003, later he married, which ended in divorce. Throughout his life he had a strong Catholic faith. It reflected in his love for Sunday mass, his high point of the week.
Steve had a talent for speaking. He gave wonderful homilies which had a positive effect on many people who heard him. His homilies were well thought out, well presented, concise, and to the point. His speaking skills went beyond homilies and he was frequently requested to record talks on St. Joseph Radio and Magnificent events.
Steve loved sports and enjoyed skiing, water skiing, surfing, rock climbing, and watching Notre Dame Football. However, his greatest love was fishing. He and his father and friends, for over 25 years, made the annual trip for opening day fishing at Crowley Lake. For over 40 years he, with family, spent two weeks at our beloved Minaret Falls Campground in the High Sierras. Steve would go fly fishing, bait fishing, hiking nearby trails, mountain climbing, and best of all enjoying the evening campfire. Steve would regale everyone with stories of our close encounters with bears, even though they had been heard before. He also had a repertoire of spooky stories to scare the younger crowd.
Steve is survived by his parents Jack and Terri, his four sisters, Susie Rauch (Greg), Shelly Corbin (Rob), Stacey Duffin, Sheri Al-Shamsi (Tarek), and nine nephews, three nieces and a great-nephew. You will remain in our hearts forever.
Steve was a warm, loving individual who was loved by his family and by his many friends. We know that he has the beautiful light of Jesus shining on him now.
