

Anne Hope Scott, was born March 19, 1938, in Newport News, Virginia, and died on July 8, 2022, in Silver Spring, Maryland. At the time of her death Anne Hope was a resident of the Kindley Assisted Living Center, Asbury Methodist Village, Gaithersburg, Maryland.
Anne Hope was graduated from Newport News High School in 1955 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia in 1959. She began her career as a chemistry teacher in Atlanta public schools. While living in Atlanta, she was an active member of Peachtree Christian Church. In 1968, Anne Hope made a significant career change when she became credentialed as a chemist with the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Anne Hope worked 34 years for the FDA during which she was stationed in Baltimore, New Orleans, Atlanta, and the Washington, D.C. area. When she moved to the FDA headquarters in 1989, Anne Hope joined the Medical Products Government Wide Quality Assurance Staff as a consumer safety officer. Before retiring in 2003, she also served as a National Health Fraud Coordinator, a Project Officer in the Federal-State Relations division, and a liaison to the Regional Small Business Representatives.
Throughout her life, Anne Hope was a prolific traveler, visiting nearly every continent, always searching for beautiful and interesting places in which she could pursue her passion for hiking, biking, and bird watching. Biking in British Columbia, birding on the Amazon River in the jungles of Peru and Ecuador, snorkeling in the Caribbean, exploring Morocco and Alaska, and skiing in the Alps are just a sample of her many travel adventures. Anne Hope also enjoyed painting and singing in the choir of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Rockville, MD (UUCR).
Anne Hope was a very proud and active alum of Mary Washington College and established a scholarship for female students majoring in chemistry.
Anne Hope was predeceased by her parents, Olive Francis Scott and Elmon Lee Scott, and her two brothers, Elmon Lee Scott, Jr. and Herman Harrell Scott. She is survived by her nephews, Michael Ashley Scott and Harrell David Scott, both in Georgia, and her niece, Stacy Scott Lancaster in Maryland, and their spouses and children.
The celebration of life service for Anne Hope will be held at 1:00 p.m., October 26, 2022, at UUCR, 100 Welsh Park Drive, Rockville, MD. Her ashes will be interred in a private ceremony in UUCR’s memorial garden.
