Anne Marie Scott, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025, in Gaithersburg, MD, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Born September 25, 1959, in Baltimore, MD, to Andrew and Dolores (nee Tewey) Tippett, who both predeceased her, Anne’s life was a testament to her unwavering spirit and the strength of her convictions.
Anne’s journey was marked by her deep commitment to her family and her faith. Her legacy is cherished by her devoted husband of 44 years, Gary Scott, and their beloved children, Tony Scott (Becky) and Valerie DeGaetani (Rich). Her role as a grandmother to Laura, John, Brody, and Lucas was not just her title, but her sacred calling. Anne also leaves behind her brothers, Bill (Robin) and Tom (Lynn) Tippett, who, along with the rest of her nieces and nephews and their children, were integral threads in the beautiful tapestry of her life.
Those who knew Anne would describe her as loving, faith-filled, and courageous. The consummate ‘Navy Wife’, Anne faced life's challenges, including her battle with cancer, with a heart full of grace and the courage that comes from a deep-seated belief in God's plan. Her courage was not loud or boisterous, rather a quiet steady force that reassured those around her that even in the darkest moments, there is light to be found.
Anne's academic pursuits began at Towson University, where she laid the foundation for a life dedicated to service and compassion. Her quest for knowledge and her desire to empower others led her to the University of South Carolina, where she earned a Masters Degree in Speech Pathology. Pausing her professional life to raise her children, Anne then resumed her vocational path, which was a reflection of her inner light. Returning to the work force, Anne shared her talents and treasures with countless students of future generations as a teacher at Gaithersburg Presbyterian Preschool for 20 years. She finished her career as the Director of Continuing Education at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), touching lives and inspiring hope in innumerable individuals and families.
Anne’s professional achievements were paralleled by a deep commitment to her Christian faith. Anne's relationship with God was the cornerstone of her existence. She found immense joy in fellowship, regularly attending church, participating in bible study groups, and socializing with neighbors and friends. Her faith was not merely a part of her life; it was the lens through which she viewed the world, and it illuminated her path with purpose and conviction.
Anne's influence extended far beyond her immediate circle, touching the lives of all who had the pleasure of crossing her path. Her smile, warm embrace, and unwavering positivity will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
As we bid farewell to Anne Marie Scott, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a legacy of love that will continue to inspire and guide us. Though her physical presence is no longer with us, her spirit remains a guiding light in the lives of her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.
While she will be profoundly missed, Anne’s story does not end here; it carries on in the memories we cherish and the love that never fades.
"Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her." (Proverbs 31:28, KJV).
