Bertha Porro Lastre

Bertha Porro LastreBertha Lastre, 89, of Olney, Maryland, died peacefully on January 27, 2024.Born June 26, 1934 in Camagüey, Cuba to Pedro and Amelia Porro. She studied at the University of Havana and received her PhD from Georgetown University.She was a longtime resident of Washington, DC and later moved to Olney, Maryland.

She worked in DCPS for over 30 years and later taught Spanish at Montgomery College after retirement. She is widow of Orlando A. Lastre. Survived by her children Orlando P. Lastre, Eduardo Lastre, Bertha (Joe) Pino, and Jenny (Pat) Cunningham. Grandchildren Michael Lastre, Jessica (James) Straub, Christopher (Dawn) Lastre, Nicholas Lastre, Samantha Pino, Joseph Pino, Anthony Pino, Jake Cunningham, Dylan Cunningham, and Colin Cunningham. Great Grandchildren James Straub II, Luca Lastre, and Jesse Straub. Survived also by brother Pedro Porro of Bethesda, Maryland.

Bertha loved to travel and to speak of her beautiful Cuba. She was dearly loved by all who knew her. She will be forever missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at 10:00AM at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 2900 Olney Sandy Spring Rd, Olney, MD 20832. Followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, MD.
