Claire W. Cassidy

Claire W. Cassidy (Cotney) of Germantown, Maryland passed away on March 17, 2023. She was the beloved wife of Joseph F. Cassidy, Jr. for fifty-three (53) years. Mrs. Cassidy was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and grew up in Wildwood, New Jersey. She is the daughter of the late John R. and Mary E. Cotney.

Claire was a loving mother to Katherine Cassidy of Clarksburg, Maryland, and Joseph F. Cassidy, III and his wife Libby also of Clarksburg, Maryland and adoring Grandmother to Molly Ridgway. She is also survived by her sister Maryann Dowey of Raleigh, North Carolina and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Claire is a graduate of Bellarmine College, Louisville, Kentucky where she met her husband. She spent her early years of marriage as a stay-at-home mother to Katherine and Joseph III and the neighborhood kids. Claire and her family moved from Pawtucket, Rhode Island to the Washington, DC area in 1984 and eventually settled in Germantown, Maryland. She worked for over thirty (30) years in both wholesale and retail Mortgage Operations for several companies in the Maryland area including Potomac Savings Bank and DSB Mortgage Company. She also worked as Vice President of Aurora Loan Services, a Lehman Brothers Company, in Gaithersburg, Maryland for more than seven (7) years. She retired in 2014.

She will be remembered with love by all who knew her but especially by her husband, children and granddaughter.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Claire’s life on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 East Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg, Maryland 20877 from 2:00PM to 4:00PM. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial offered at Mother Seton Catholic Church, 19951 Father Hurley Boulevard, Germantown, Maryland, 20874 on Monday March 27, 2023 at 11AM with visitation one hour before the Mass. Her burial will be private.
