

Mr. Cloyd A. Bittner, Sr., 81, of Rockville, Maryland, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023, at Casey House Montgomery Hospice. Cloyd was born in Fairhope, Pennsylvania to the late Millard L. and Clara M. (Carder) Bittner.
Mr. Bittner is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Betty A. (Rhinehart) Bittner, and their two children Cloyd, Jr. of Rockville, and Cynthia (Joseph) Courchaine of Purcellville, VA. He was blessed with three grandsons Joseph Jr., Matthew and Nicholas Courchaine. He also leaves behind, brother-n-law Roger (Patti) Rhinehart and brother-in-law Thomas (Joyce) Rhinehart and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bittner was drafted into the U.S. Army prior to the Vietnam War, however, he was never deployed as he was a sole surviving son. After two years of active duty, he then served two years with the U.S. Army Reserves. He was honorably discharged in 1970.
Mr. Bittner worked for Montgomery County Government from 1961 to 1994. He was a District Supervisor for Highway Maintenance - Silver Spring Division. He retired in 1994 after 33 years of service.
After retirement Mr. Bittner enjoyed working as a professional pallbearer and later as a hearse driver working for Bill Hysong (of the former Hysong Funeral Home of Washington DC).
Mr. Bittner was a member of the Masonic Lodge #195 AF&AM, where he served as Secretary for 13 years. He was a member of multiple other Masonic Organizations including the Scottish Rite of the District of Columbia, the Tall Cedars, and the Yacht Club.
Friends may call DeVol Funeral Home, 10 E. Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg, MD on Wednesday, December 27 from 1 to 4 p.m., where a Masonic Service will take place at 2 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at Rockville United Methodist Church, 112 W. Montgomery Avenue, Rockville, MD on Thursday December 28 at 11 a.m. Internment will follow at 1 p.m. at Parklawn Cemetery, 12800 Veirs Mill Road, Rockville, MD. A reception will follow internment at the Masonic Lodge in Rockville located at 612 Great Falls Road, Rockville, MD.
