Dionicia Galeas

It is with great sorrow that we announce the untimely loss of our beloved Dionicia “Alicia” Galeas. Our beautiful mother and grandmother entered her eternal rest on March 28th, 2022. Born December 9th, 1935, in San Salvador, El Salvador. She later followed her children’s steps and relocated to the United States in the late 90’s to reunite with her family. Since then, she continued to be the pillar and foundation for the Galeas/Lopez family as they built their lives in the US.

Dionicia’s life has showcased her strong-will and her determination to provide to her family in every way possible. As a single mother to her 3 sons, Humberto, Marcos, Alvaro and her daughter, Ana Silvia, she demonstrated her incredible bravery. She will be remembered for her hard work, determination, and dedication. Even became a small business owner in El Salvador, where she owned a successful bakery and was known for having the best “pan dulce” in town.

Dionicia was the Matriarch of our family and the glue that held our family together. Her value to our family is not bounded by just being our mother or grandmother; she was our best friend who structured our family with stability and accountability. She was traditional and timeless; her values have been passed down and will continue to be passed down to generations. She was comforting and loving, humorous, and compassionate. She was an undoubtedly religious woman, who inspired those around her to strive for an honorable living based on good morals and values.

Dionicia enjoyed traditional Salvadoran cooking, tending to her beautiful gardens at her home of rose bushes, watching WWE (particularly, the Rock and John Cena) and truly found joy in spending time with her family and great grandchildren in her later age. She also found great love with her family pet, Perla who was one of her best friends! She loved and admired all of God’s creations, in particular her admiration of birds. One of her favorites all time movies was Charlotte’s Web. Above all else, she dearly loved her family deeply and will be greatly missed by all the lives she touched.

Our beloved Dionicia excelled at every aspect in her life, especially in her family life. She was the epitome of unconditional and selfless love; she supported her children in any way possible and also played a vital role in raising all of her grandchildren and even her great grandchildren. Her life is an example of courage and compassion for others. We are honored to have had her as the matriarch in our family and will continue to honor her legacy and remember her always.

Dionicia is predeceased by her 1st Son Humberto Galeas. Dionicia will continue to be a cherished mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by her adoring children Marco, Alvaro and Ana Silvia and her admiring grandchildren Claudia, Sandra, Oscar, David, Diana, Roxanna and Erika and great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Natividad Cruz Galeas.

The visitation will be held Thursday, April 14th from 2-4pm at the DeVol Funeral Home at 10 East Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg. MD 20877. The visitation will take place Friday, April 15th from 10-11am at the same location, followed by a funeral service starting at 11:00AM and her final resting place will be at All Souls Cemetery in Germantown, MD.

Con gran pesar comunicamos la pérdida prematura de nuestra querida Dionicia “Alicia” Galeas. Nuestra hermosa madre, abuela y bisabuela entró en su eterno descanso el 28 de marzo de 2022. Nació el 9 de diciembre de 1935 en San Salvador, El Salvador. Más tarde siguió los pasos de sus hijos y se mudó a los Estados Unidos en los 90 's para reunirse con su familia. Ella siguió siendo el pilar y la base de la familia Galeas/López mientras construimos nuestras vidas en los EE. UU.

La vida de Dionicia ha demostrado su fuerza de voluntad y su determinación de proveer a su familia de todas las formas posibles. Como madre soltera de sus 3 hijos, Humberto, Marcos, Alvaro y su hija, Ana Silvia, ella demostró su increíble valentía. Será recordada por su arduo trabajo, determinación y dedicación. Incluso ella era propietaria de una pequeña empresa en El Salvador, donde era dueña de una panadería exitosa y era conocida por tener el mejor “pan dulce” de la ciudad!

Dionicia era la matriarca de nuestra familia y el pegamento que mantenía unida a nuestra familia. Su valor para nuestra familia no está limitado solo por ser nuestra madre o abuela; ella fue nuestra mejor amiga que estructuró nuestra familia con estabilidad y responsabilidad. Ella era tradicional y atemporal; sus valores se han transmitido y se seguirán transmitiendo de generación en generación. Era reconfortante y cariñosa, graciosa y compasiva. Fue una mujer

indudablemente religiosa, que inspiró a quienes la rodeaban a luchar por una vida digna basada en la buena moral y valores.

Dionicia disfrutó de la cocina salvadoreña tradicional, cuidando sus hermosos jardines en su casa de rosales, viendo WWE (particularmente, The Rock y John Cena) y realmente encontró alegría en pasar tiempo con su familia y sus bisnietos en su vejez. También encontró un gran amor con la mascota de su familia, Perla, quien era una de sus mejores amigas! Amaba y admiraba todas las creaciones de Dios, en particular su admiración por las aves. Una de sus películas favoritas de todos los tiempos fue Charlotte's Web. Por encima de todo, amaba profundamente a su familia y todas las vidas que tocó le van a extrañar mucho.

Nuestra querida Dionicia destacó en todos los aspectos de su vida, especialmente en su vida familiar. Ella era la personificación del amor incondicional y desinteresado; ella apoyó a sus hijos de cualquier manera posible y también desempeñó un papel vital en la crianza de todos sus nietos e incluso de sus bisnietos. Su vida es un ejemplo de valentía y compasión por los demás. Nos sentimos honrados de haberla tenido como matriarca en nuestra familia y continuaremos honrando su legado y recordándola siempre.

Dionicia es antecedida en muerte por su primer hijo Humberto Galeas. Dionicia seguirá siendo una querida madre, abuela y bisabuela. Le sobreviven sus adorados hijos Marco, Alvaro y Ana Silvia y nietos Claudia, Sandra, Oscar, David, Diana, Roxanna y Erika y bisnietos. También le sobrevive su hermana Natividad Cruz Galeas.

El velorio se llevará a cabo el jueves 14 de abril de 2 a 4 p.m. en Devol Funeral Home en '10 East Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg. MD 20877'. La misa final se llevará a cabo el viernes 15 de abril de 10 a 11 a. m. en el mismo lugar y su lugar de descanso final será en el cementerio All Souls en Germantown, MD.
