On January 15, 2024, Edna Hargrove of Gaithersburg, Maryland, passed away peacefully in her sleep one week before her one hundredth birthday. Born on January 22, 1924, to Ola and Eddie Hudgins, Edna came from the small town of Taylor, Mississippi. After a semester at junior college, missing her sister, she left Mississippi to live with her sister Iva and her husband, Ben, in Washington D.C. She met Richard Lee Hargrove, a Tech Sargeant in the Army, and married a year later. They were stationed in Japan and Germany while raising their two beloved children, Ronnie and Kay. They eventually settled in the Washington D.C. area. Edna worked as a senior secretary for A.O.P.A. until retirement. She and Lee retired to Ocean Pines, Maryland. After the death of her husband, Edna moved to Asbury Methodist Village. She enjoyed volunteering, and as a faithful Christian, was active in her church. She often volunteered by sharing her amazing gift of playing the piano. Edna was an avid Bridge player, and also enjoyed a weekly game of Scrabble with her Trott neighbors. She was a gracious host, a loyal friend, a devout Christian, and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
While her family grieves her passing, they celebrate the precious memories made with her throughout her long, beautiful life. They are comforted that she is now in Heaven, reunited with her husband, son, mother, father, brother and sisters. Edna is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Kay, her "favorite" son-in-law, Michael, her two beautiful granddaughters, Amy and Laurie, Laurie's husband, James, and her seven precious great-grandchildren, Sabrina, Gracie, Christian, Liam, Claire, Henry, and Charlotte.
A private memorial service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, it is appreciated that donations may be sent, at her request, to the Asbury Benevolent Fund at Asbury Foundation, Asbury Methodist Village, 201 Russell Avenue, Gaithersburg, Maryland 20877.
