Elena A. Madariaga

Elena A. Madariaga, of Gaithersburg, MD died on Thursday, January 28, 2016. She is the beloved wife of 43 yrs. to Luis H. Madariaga; loving mother of Paul Madariaga and his wife Alisia, Germantown, MD, Javier Madariaga and his wife Megan, Arlington, VA and Daniel Madariaga, Chicago, IL; adoring ?Buela? of Madison and Luke; dear sister of Elsi De Leon, Blanca De Leon, Carolina De Leon, Susanna Escalante, Sonia Grajeda, and Adolfo De Leon.  Many nieces, nephews and friends also survive her.

A native of Guatemala, Elena graduated from high school and went on to study accounting.  As a young woman, she moved to the United States in 1973 and began working at a non-profit firm doing accounting work in Washington, D.C.. Elena worked very hard in various jobs over the years to support her family. She also cleaned houses in the area and became a great friend to the families she worked for.  Elena earned her advanced dental license and went on to work for 20 years at several dental offices. 

Elena loved music and dancing.  She loved to garden, cook for her family, and spend time with her adorable grandchildren (and grand doggie).  Most of all, she enjoyed watching her family get together to laugh, love, and smile.

Elena was a strong and beautiful woman, who welcomed everyone with open arms and an open heart.

Friends may gather at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 E. Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg, MD 20877 on Thursday, February 4th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
