Beth was born on December 19, 1950, in Bethesda, MD, to the late Dorsey and Ruth (Akers) Adams. She graduated from Wheaton High School in 1968.
In 1970, Beth met the love of her life, John Shotzberger, and they married in Silver Spring, MD, on June 24, 1971. They honeymooned in Ocean City, MD. Beth and John went on to have two daughters, Valerie Shotzberger and Michelle Shotzberger Robinson, and family vacations to Ocean City over the years created many special memories for the family.
In retirement, she and John enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren, Shanee’ Robinson and Eriq Robinson, and other loved ones; going fishing and boating; and traveling around the world together. Beth also enjoyed gardening and watching game shows.
Beth was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Shotzberger; brother, William Adams (Deborah); and son-in-law, Kelly Bartz (Valerie). In addition to her daughters and grandchildren, she is survived by her devoted sister, Kathleen Adams Freedman (Richard); nieces, Natalie (Adams) Miller and Colleen Tuohey; the entire Raiford family; the “girls night out” crew, and a host of other family and friends.
Beth suffered from the devastating effects of frontotemporal dementia (FTD) for many years before her passing. We are pleased to share that she is helping further FTD research by donating brain tissue to the Georgetown Brain Bank at Georgetown University Medical Center. This donation will help support scientific research aimed at understanding neurological diseases and discovering cures, especially less common diseases such as FTD.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the memory care team at Sunrise at Montgomery Village, whose compassionate care and unwavering kindness brought comfort to both Beth and her loved ones in her final chapter.
A memorial service to celebrate Beth’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 E. Deer Park Dr., Gaithersburg, MD 20877. A reception will follow immediately afterwards at DeVol Funeral Home.
