

Gregory Monroe Jones, age 73, passed away on Sunday October 27, 2024 at his home in Washington, D.C. of complications of Parkinson’s. Greg is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Erika, and their cherished daughter, Katie of Los Angeles, CA, and her husband, Doug Walters. Greg was a loving Pop-Pop to Jude Walters. He is also survived by his brothers Greg DeGiere of Sacramento, CA and Lea Jones of Eugene, OR, and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was also fortunate to have many good friends in his life.
Greg was born in Roswell, New Mexico in 1951 to William and Alice Graham Jones. He graduated from University of California (Berkeley) and the University of Texas Law School. After law school, he joined the federal government in Washington, D.C. at the Federal Communications Commission. He continued his public service in the White House Office of Consumer Affairs, the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, and the U.S. Department of Justice, from which he retired in 2012.
Greg approached life with a wry sense of humor. He enjoyed good food, history, documentaries, baseball (including his beloved LA Dodgers and his adopted Washington Nationals) and music (especially bluegrass, Texas swing, and singer-songwriters). Most of all, he loved his family and friends, and they will miss him deeply.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 5949 Western Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20015
