James A. Devereaux

With deep sadness we announce the death of James A Devereaux. He passed away peacefully on July 18, 2024, at the age of 92. He is survived by his wife Mary of 69 years, his brother Jack (Diana), 10 children: Mary (Patrick), Joan (Mark), James (Colleen), Anne (John), Patty (John), Sharon (Joe), Karen (John), Amy (Jeff), Maggie (Tim), Dan, 34 grandchildren, 16 great grandsons and 1 great granddaughter on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Rose, his sisters Joan and Jean (Howard). He was a graduate of the 1955 class of USMA, West Point and earned Airborne Wings and Ranger Tab. At IBM, he led a team developing the first multi-processor software operating system. As a hobby, he wrote a column for the Frederick News Post. He was man of faith and was actively involved in the Catholic Church. He loved and was deeply devoted to his wife and family. Love you forever! “Acts 2: 42”.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 East Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg, MD from 2:00PM to 4:00PM. Another visitation will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at 10:00AM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 9000 Warfield Rd, Gaithersburg, MD followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM. Followed by interment at All Souls Cemetery.
