James Gardner Potter

James Gardner Potter, aged 80, passed away on September 26, 2024, in Darnestown, MD. Born on December 21, 1943, James dedicated himself to a life of service, both in his professional career and personal endeavors.James proudly served in the Army from 1967 to 1969, a period during which he contributed to his country with honor. After his military service, he embarked on a successful career in HVAC sales at Johnson Controls from 1969 to 1988, and later as a marketing manager at Boland Trane HVAC Solutions from 1988 until his retirement in 2019.A graduate of Ohio Northern University with a BA in Business Administration in 1966, James was deeply committed to education and community service. He was the chairman of the Board at Christ Episcopal School and served on the Board of the Maryland Soccer Plex from its inception until 2024. His passion for soccer also led him to become an assistant soccer coach, influencing many young athletes.James attended Christ Episcopal Church in Rockville, MD with his family, where he participated in church activities. His hobbies also included being a car and sports enthusiast, which brought joy and excitement to his life. He enjoyed designing and building furniture and engaging in home repairs.He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Judith; children James Scott Potter (Erin), Jeffrey David Potter, and Jennifer Delaney (Tim); and his nine grandchildren, Sarah, Andrew, June, Grey, Katherine, Emma, Teagan, Harper, and Davy. James was preceded in death by his parents, James and Sarah Potter, and his brother, David.The visitation will be held on November 2, 2024, at 10 am followed by a service at 11 am at Christ Episcopal Church, 107 S Washington St, Rockville, MD 20850. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of James may be made to The American Heart Association . James's legacy of dedication, service, and love will be remembered by all who knew him.
