Jim was born on the family farm in Flemington New Jersey on July 23, 1928 to Sicilian immigrants Angelo and Vita (Costa) Verme. He was the youngest of five: Giacomo and Rosina, both of whom died in early childhood, Rose Verme (Alex Mazzucco), and Louis J Verme (Rose Marie). He was very proud of his Sicilian heritage.
Jim graduated from Boston College in 1951 with a B.S. in Chemistry. He was a lifelong BC Eagle fan. He continued his education receiving a Master of Engineering Administration from George Washington University in 1960.
There is no mistaking his blood ran red, white, and blue. He felt Honored to have served in the United States Navy. Following his discharge from the Navy, Jim worked for the Atomic Energy Commission (later re-named the Department of Energy). He retired in 1982 and later was a Senior Scientist at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). He worked on some really cool stuff that shall not be discussed.
In November 1958 Jim married the love of his life, Martha Fulbright, in Waco Texas. They moved to Maryland, where Jim spent the next 60+ years. He enjoyed being a member of St. Raphael Parish for 51 years. In 1959 they were blessed with a daughter Mary Pat (David Robinson) followed in 1960 by Martha Anne (John Thompson), 1962 Margie Sue (Andy Pleat), 1963 James Michael, and 1968 Jean Marie (Charley Motter).
Jim will be missed by his eight adored grandchildren: Charlie, Kristen (Eddie Salinas), Emily and Ben Thompson, Ty and Nick Robinson, Drew Pleat, and Lauren Motter. Jim is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of who were very special to him.
