Jeanette M. Penner

Born in Mobile, Alabama, Jeanette (Rice) was the eleventh child of Joseph E. Rice, Sr. and Mattie R. Weaver. Her journey through life took her from the South to California, where she met her husband, Dean. Together, they built their family and eventually made their home in Maryland in 1970.

Jeanette is survived by her children: Cindy Penner of Columbia, Maryland and Ronald Penner, his wife Marta Heilbrun, and her granddaughters Anna and Sophie of Salt Lake City, Utah. She leaves behind two sisters, Lillian Rice Kerner of Newport News, Virginia, and Rosanna Jensen of Lincoln, California, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Jeanette had a passion for gardening and flowers, finding joy in nurturing her garden and sharing her love of nature as a member of the Glens Garden Club. She was known for her generous spirit, delighting friends and family with her homemade baked treats and delicious jams.

Her legacy lives on in the love she shared, the memories she created, and the countless lives she touched with her kindness and generosity.

A visitation for Jeanette will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 East Deer Park Dr., Gaithersburg, Maryland 20877. Following the visitation will be a graveside service from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at All Souls Cemetery.

Jeanette will be laid to rest in All Souls Cemetery.
